China’s economy grew 3.9% YoY in Q3, beating market expectations

China has reported economic growth in the third quarter of 3.9% compared to a year earlier, beating market expectations.

A poll by Reuters earlier this month had put the figure at 3.4%, but both are well below China’s official target of 5-point-5 percent.

China’s National Bureau of Statistics reported Monday that GDP last quarter grew to 87 trillion Chinese yuan, which is a little over 12 trillion U.S. dollars.

Growth was strongly higher from the quarter before, too, when it came to just 0.4%
.
China says growth has recovered thanks in part to its COVID-19 policies, though the same policies and lockdowns are widely blamed elsewhere for much of China’s economic difficulties.
